Giovedì 17 dicembre 2015 il portale telematico “Brotnjo.info” ha pubblicato ampi stralci di una lunga conversazione con Sua Eminenza il Cardinal Vinko Puljić, Arcivescovo di Sarajevo. Riguardo al rinomato luogo di pellegrinaggio dell’Erzegovina, il Porporato ha detto che Medjugorje è una parrocchia posta sotto la responsabilità del Vescovo locale di Mostar e del parroco, un frate che organizza le sue attività.
Fino a quando non venga deciso diversamente — ha affermato Puljić — “la
gente ha il diritto di andare, di pregare Dio e di fare penitenza”.
“Si tratta di uno dei più grandi confessionali in queste regioni, e non solo nei Balcani, ma anche in Europa. Questo fatto va in qualche modo apprezzato, e la decisione che attendiamo riguardo al santuario non cambia questa realtà. Verosimilmente la questione dipanata sarà solo quella della direzione amministrativa di quella parrocchia. Per quanto invece concerne le visioni ed i messaggi, la Chiesa studierà ancora tali aspetti, non si procederà così speditamente. La Chiesa non agisce in modo affrettato, ma giunge sempre al suo scopo. Perciò io non sarei preoccupato per ciò che riguarda la posizione del Santo Padre né per quella della Congregazione per la Dottrina della fede. Per me la cosa più importante è che le persone che là si recano custodiscano la fede, dono per cui a buon diritto pregano, che la rafforzino e che tornino consolate alle loro case”, ha evidenziato Puljić.

Cardinal Vinko Puljic, head of the Church in Bosnia Herzegovina, has
hinted at possible changes to Medjugorje’s status as a sanctuary and
place of pilgrimage.
In his Christmas address the Cardinal said Medjugorje is one of the largest confessionals, not only in the Balkans but also in Europe, and should be recognised in some way.
He
also spoke about the long-awaited outcome on the status of Medjugorje
and said that any decision on the sanctuary, would be just a matter of
administrative management and for probably the parish, and would not
mean an early decision on the claimed apparitions and messages
associated with the phenomenon. “In terms of the visions and messages
the Church will continue its study and not go that fast. The Church is
not in a hurry,” the Cardinal explained.
He added that he was not worried about the attitude of the Holy Father nor of the Congegation for the Doctrine of Faith and that it was important that the people who come to Medjugorje pray to keep the faith, strengthen their faith, and return home comforted.
The Sarajevo Archbishop concluded his comments on Medjugorje saying that “until otherwise decided people have the right to come to Medjugorje, to pray and do penance.”
Cardinal Puljic was a member of the Commission set up by Pope Benedict XVI to give further study to the Medjugorje phenomenon.
It has been expected that an announcement about the outcome of the study would be made before the end of the year.
